Nominee for Best Community Impact Award

HolyCrap.ca, the makers of the world's most amazing breakfast cereal, has made a significant positive impact on the Sunshine Coast, BC community. The main economic base of this rural area is government, forest-based manufacturing, tourism, farming and fishing. The unemployment rate has increased dramatically over the last few years; 4.3% in 2008, 7.5% in 2009 and 9.4% in 2010. (Stats Canada, Labour Force Survey)

Bucking that trend, HolyCrap.ca, a 2009 start-up artisan breakfast cereal manufacturing business has hired 16 employees since 2009. They have instituted a profit-sharing plan, a comprehensive health care plan and ongoing training programs for employees on everything from forklifts to computer systems to health and safety and human relations. HolyCrap.ca is committed to keeping its headquarters and first manufacturing facility on the Sunshine Coast to benefit the community.

Earlier in 2011 they opened a new nut-free all organic manufacturing plant and plans are already underway to expand its capacity. Based on HolyCrap.ca's co-founders Corin and Brian’s success, CBC Dragons’ Den decided to add Sechelt, BC as one of their spring 2011 road show audition stops bringing more national attention to the small community.

The Mullins held a workshop to share their experiences and coached auditioners. Five businesses were chosen from Sechelt to pitch on the 2011/2012 Dragons Den season.

HolyCrap.ca promotes its Canadian made products and the Sunshine Coast through their social media networks with a reach of over 1.5M people.

Corin and Brian maintain "the world's largest survival kit" with a base inventory of 30,000 bags of cereal available for the Sunshine Coast's residents in case of emergency. That's enough to feed the Coast's population breakfast for a week.
